Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Warning
SAMHSA, the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, has issued warnings about the critical lack of access to mental health counseling and treatment.
They call for behavioral health equity to ensure all people have access to high-quality and affordable care, regardless of their backgrounds. SAMHSA has also acknowledged the barriers that many face when seeking the appropriate level of treatment services due to a lack of educational and employment opportunities or the unaffordability of insurance plans.
B-UFC insurance coverage helps in leveling the playing field for the overlooked communities.

Luz Entered Recovery for Substance Use Disorders
‘Luz’ came to Changes Healing Center after her wife gave her an ultimatum – she’d go to treatment for her alcohol and drug addiction or lose her marriage. Knowing that drinking and abusing Xanax was taking a physical and emotional toll on her life quality and well-being, Luz chose to get help.
Because an initial evaluation showed that Luz had critical health challenges and a compromised liver, our admission staff called her insurance provider, B-UFC, and explained the urgency of her mental and medical complications. With our intervention, Luz qualified for inpatient treatment and would pay nothing out-of-pocket.
Luz completed drug and alcohol detox. We gave her FDA medications that reduced the discomfort of withdrawal. After detox, found the semi-private rooms comfortable and charming. She enjoyed nutritious meals to help stop the physical damage to her liver and attended addiction treatment and therapy every day. She was a social butterfly and especially loved group therapy.
The Effectiveness of Dual Diagnosis Treatment
Luz’s treatment team quickly uncovered the need for dual diagnosis treatment. It turned out that Luz had started experimenting first with alcohol and later drugs since her mid-teens as a means of escaping from an always chaotic (and sometimes violent) home life.
Her parents had their own substance use disorders and lacked the life skills to teach their daughter how to cope with life. The lack of security and trauma throughout her early life guided us in providing trauma-informed therapy. Luz attended both cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR therapy to minimize the trauma simultaneously with her addiction recovery services.
By the end of her inpatient drug addiction programs, Luz had ceased all illicit substance use and had achieved full sobriety. Today, Luz knows that every day will bring new challenges but feels confident today. Her body is healing well, and she has the tools to stay clean and sober. Luz attends support groups weekly; she and her wife attend marriage therapy to heal their shared issues.

Can Changes Help Me Make the Call to Banner?
We can help. In fact, we prefer to make that call for you. Insurance companies have historically – and notoriously – been tricky about covering addiction treatment, especially inpatient rehab. The law requires them to treat mental health on par with physical ailments. However, many use loopholes to minimize how much they’ll pay for drug/alcohol detox, rehab, and related recovery services. Our admissions specialists know how to present your recovery needs to them to maximize the benefits, so you’ll pay less for your rehab program.
