Drug and Alcohol Addiction Is Covered by Insurance

First, let’s address your concerns about the costs of a personalized treatment plan. Substance use disorders are diagnosable conditions similar to other diagnosed mental health issues. As such, mental and behavioral health services are now considered medically necessary when recommended by a doctor.

Insurance companies can be reluctant to create awareness about the availability of drug or alcohol rehab center services. Insurers have had a historical bias against approving treatment for mental health disorders until the Affordable Care Act made mental health treatment equitable.

If you’re seeking answers about coverage for addiction recovery, call our admissions team for guidance. We’ll take care of calling your insurance provider and maximizing your benefits. We accept most insurance plans, including AHCCCS clients. Call our team now if you’re ready to reach out to us for help.

Inpatient or Outpatient Drug or Alcohol Rehab

Inpatient drug rehab (sometimes called residential treatment) provides clients with an opportunity for a 24/7, fully immersive program. Generally, inpatient treatment programs are reserved for those with long-term, complicated mental health concerns, including dual-diagnosis clients. For anyone who needs the most supportive environment possible, inpatient rehab is the answer.

We also offer two outpatient treatment programs: An intensive outpatient program and a partial hospitalization program. Clients who choose outpatient treatment receive the same effective therapies as inpatients but enjoy more flexibility. Outpatient treatment means coming to Changes to participate in the recovery process during the day and sleeping at home each night.

Drug or Alcohol Addiction Therapeutic Services

Regardless of whether you choose inpatient treatment or outpatient services, each receives a personalized treatment plan at Changes following a comprehensive assessment. Here are some of the holistic treatments you’d find in most recovery treatment programs:

Medically-assisted Detox to Manage Withdrawal Symptoms

The recovery journey nearly always starts with some from of detox, whether it is a medical or sub-acute detox. The detox process can trigger distressing withdrawal symptoms within a few hours after the last use of drugs or alcohol. Both alcohol abuse and drug addiction change the brain’s reward system.

Substances create a false sense of well-being when used and send panic signals that become withdrawal when it doesn’t get the expected chemical. Detoxing in a professional environment supports your well-being, providing safety from the most dangerous symptoms.

Medication-assisted Treatment (MAT) Programs

Alcohol and opioids can be hazardous in the first stages of addiction treatment. These two substances are especially challenging or even life-threatening. With MAT, a recovery center professional can provide a less harmful replacement medication to satisfy the brain’s cravings.

The FDA-approved prescription is eventually tapered until the client can function without it.

Medication Management

Substance abuse medication is often not the only prescription a client needs during long-term recovery. Medication management is a process in which a clinician oversees integrating mental health and addiction treatment medications with other necessary prescriptions.

They monitor and make adjustments to avoid harmful drug interactions and ensure each medication’s efficacy.

Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program

Dual Diagnosis Recovery Program at Goodyear

Many come to drug rehab centers with more than one mental health condition. Co-occurring disorders, or dual diagnosis, require simultaneous treatment along with addiction treatment to ensure the resolution of both.

An example of this might be someone using fentanyl to relieve the pain of a past trauma. The doctor will treat the drug addiction along with the post-traumatic stress disorder (the mental illness component).

Individual Counseling, Group Therapy, and Family Therapy

Our holistic healing approach starts with evidence-based individual therapy. Changes counselors are highly qualified and licensed, with expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, as well as others. These are effective in confronting and changing addictive behaviors.

Clients may also participate in group therapy sessions. Working with peers to learn helps clients enhance communication skills, problem-solving, and healthier coping strategies. The environment is collaborative and encouraging.

Family members are often unwitting contributors to addiction – either as enablers or as co-dependents. Attending family therapy helps build new, healthy relationships and shows loved ones how they can support the client with ongoing support without enabling them in the future.

Relapse Prevention Planning

Addiction treatment centers are just the first part of the recovery journey. Clients in either an inpatient or an intensive outpatient program will participate in crafting an aftercare plan to help them achieve their long-term recovery goals.

Amanda Became a Goodyear Drug Rehab Success Story

Goodyear Drug Rehab Success Story

Amanda came to Changes Healing Center with an addiction to benzos. She’d become addicted through her Xanax prescription, which her family physician offered her for her self-reported anxiety. He failed to recommend therapy to address the cause of her anxious thoughts, leaving her without coping tools and solely reliant on the drug. The doctor continued to prescribe Xanax. Amanda did not realize that she was addicted to Xanax until her physician retired.

When the new doctor at the practice refused to continue filling the medication without a new patient assessment, Amanda found herself without access Xanax. She went through withdrawal, experiencing a rapid heartbeat, sweating, and worse anxiety than ever before. She called a friend who used street benzos and connected with a dealer.

The self-medication with street drugs continued for months and ended when she got pills laced with fentanyl. Her overdose was swift and sudden. A passerby suspected an opioid overdose, administered Narcan, and called 911.

A Crisis Leads to Changes and Recovery Success

An emergency room doctor explained to Amanda that she’d overdosed and told her about the fentanyl-laced fake Xanax pills. The E.D. physician also told her about Changes Healing Center. Amanda called Changes, and their admissions team reassured her that they would accept her health insurance.

Amanda started a partial hospitalization program at Changes within a few days of that call – it allowed her to receive help after work each evening. She started therapy and learned that her anxiety started during childhood when she witnessed frequent drive-by shootings in her neighborhood.

With the dual diagnosis identified, Amanda began receiving trauma-informed therapies to reduce the anxiety related to the traumatic event while learning more appropriate coping tools than using Xanax.

Today, Amanda no longer uses Xanax, vapes, or drinks alcohol. She’s completely substance-free and in long-term recovery. She joined a SMART Recovery group and continues to attend weekly to ensure accountability.
